Does anyone have any experience with the Ford 6.2 liter gas engine?

My dad is looking at buying a 2015 ford f250 tomorrow and asked me to “Ask my internet car people if they knew anything about the engine and if it had any issues”. So any info would be helpful! Thanks!

Neighbor across the street has a last gen F150 with the 6.2 - no problems, (sounds awesome.)

What does he plan to use it for? I know some of the larger gas engines in full size trucks get to be much less efficient than just going with a diesel once you go bast half-ton trucks. If he will be doing a lot of hauling I would say a diesel may be better, but if it is just for the occasional heavy load then you will probably be okay with gas. I do know that F-250s ride like a tractor compared to smaller trucks because of the beefier suspension, but they smooth out with more weight. But anyways, long story short, if he’s going to be doing a lot of hauling it actually may be cheaper for him to just get a diesel.

I’ve driven a few F250s with the 6.2 at the dealership where I work. While I don’t know anything about issues or reliability, it seems like a good powerplant. Plenty powerful, and sounds awesome to boot.

My FIL has that exact truck(2014). I’ve driven it a handful of times and it’s great. He’s had zero problems with it. Tows his boat, Bobcat and tractor with ease. You wouldn’t even know they are back there it’s so smooth.

He does a lot of hauling with big loads of hay, his tractor, horses, and the ocassional car. I thinkthink with how often he hauls stuff, the 250 makes sense. I think he however wants gas due to higher availability and also lower costs, disel can get up to a dollar fifty more a gallon than regular unleaded in louisiana!

This is a powerstroke.

From what I have heard they are good engines. Never drove one myself but they have been in the raptor for a while and haven’t heard anything bad about them

Jeeze, yeah I guess that would be the better bet then! Here diesel is only around 60 cents more so it’s usually worth it, but for that I would have to agree with you, as far as reliability I’ve never heard of anyone having issues with the 6.2, one of my dad’s coworkers has has one for around 2 years with no issues

I had a similar conundrum when I bought my truck last year.

The $8k that you save by going gas will buy a lot of fuel. Or, you can get a significantly nicer truck. I was on the fence of getting a bare-bones diesel or a nicely equipped gas truck, went with the 2nd option and still saved $5k or so.

Obviously it’s gonna use more fuel, especially if you’re towing something heavy. Make sure you option the lowest gearing (highest number) possible, it makes an enormous difference. .

It’ll do everything he needs and more, no need for a diesel. Just get the right rear gear ratio.

Only had 1 issue with the 6.2. Had to replace some coil packs due to water getting in via bad coil pack boots (you cannot buy boots separately from ford and there was no aftermarket for them at the time. The boots are integrated with the coil pack, stupid ford).

That was the only issue we had with the 6.2.

Fun fact, they have 16 spark plugs!

I will say this, in the year I have worked in the service dept. of a Ford dealer, I have seen many more Powerstrokes with problems than I have any 6.2

I’ve driven numerous trucks with the 6.2l. Our plow truck this past winter was powered by one, and it did just as well as the 6.7 PSD powered truck the dealer’s owner was driving. And I’m talking moving piles of snow the size of minivans. While carrying probably anywhere from 500-1000 lbs of salt in the bed, and a huge Fisher plow up front.

As far as towing goes, I have no experience with that. I’m sure it would be plenty powerful, although at the expense of mpg’s, which let’s be honest if you’re getting a truck this large that’s to be expected.
